Given the recent passing of David Bowie, Lustlocked by Matt Wallace felt like the right choice seeing as it features the Goblin King. Yes that one.
Synopsis (from Goodreads)
Love is in the air at Sin du Jour.
The Goblin King (yes, that one) and his Queen are celebrating the marriage of their son to his human bride. Naturally the celebrations will be legendary.
But when desire and magic mix, the results can be unpredictable.
Our heroes are going to need more than passion for the job to survive the catering event of the decade!.
I judged a book by its cover on this one and chose Lustlocked because the art looked cool. I am so so glad I did. Matt Wallace has created a fantastical world where anything can and usually does happen. Just when you think you are getting a handle on the book’s direction, it wooshes off somewhere else. I love that! I also loved the depiction of real life celebrities as ethereally beautiful goblins – it explains so much.
This is the second book in the Sin Du Jour series, but I hadn’t read the first one prior to picking this one up, and I don’t think it mattered as he re-established the characters well without the feeling that Wallace was repeating himself. I did go back and read it afterwards and found it equally hysterical. Honestly, I think my only complaint is it was too short and there isn’t another one to read afterwards. And that the food descriptions made me super hungry. Lustlocked will now have a permanent place on my list of books I go back and read over and over again.
My Rating: (5 / 5)
Note: This book was provided to me by the publisher free of charge in exchange for an honest review. Real talk though – I spent the money and bought it and Envy of Angels myself after reading it – it was that good.
