August Love List: Our Life In Pictures

I write these posts every month as an exercise in gratitude and as we all know some months can be harder than others. I’m not going to lie – this month has been a struggle. The black dog has been chasing me around and it’s been hard to write, or think or do very much of anything. A month where the juggling balls of my busy life came crashing to the ground and I just found it hard to care.

So I do this exercise to attempt to ‘fake it til I make it.’ I use my Instagram the same way. One post per day highlighting the joy and the love. Because it helps me force myself to recognize my blessings and pulls me up when the black dog stalks, even if some times I’m just grateful everybody made it out alive.

It helps me realize that things can and will be better because they already were all along.

Preparing: Pirate Party

The Bear turns three this month so we have been getting all setup for his pirate themed party. Because everything is pirates right now. I hope to God that obsession doesn’t change before the end of September or I am stuffed.

Reading: Every Last Lie

So much love for this book. It’s all twisty and turny – think Gone Girl or Girl OnA Train – an absolutely perfect beach read.

Hacking: Gift Tags

So I had this brain wave born out of not having time to get to the store – repurpose kids paintings to make cute present tags. Genius right?

Experiencing: The Ekka

Yay! Ekka time! I love love love taking Bear to our annual show. It’s always something I look forward to. Especially for the ice creams – where else can you indulge your sweet tooth for charity?

Celebrating: Our 5th Wedding Anniversary

The man gift ninja-ed me again replacing my cheese set because my son has started using my soft cheese knives for ‘practice chop chops’. Mr Rogue you are amazing, you beautiful tropical fish you.

Eating: All The Cheese

Seriously. All of it. Give it to me.

So that was it. My highlight reel. My little ray of sunshine in the black clouds. I hope you all can find yours too.

  1. There’s nothing wrong with a bit of fake it till you make it. I think it helps get through the day sometimes. I’m sure that Bear will still love pirates! I went through a pirate phase when I was 7 and spent all day drawing pirate ships and skulls and cross bones. Happy fifth wedding anniversary!

  2. August is a big month at our place too, filled with celebrations and fun. But I didn’t quite get there this year. Looks like you had some good times, though.

  3. I am sorry to read that the black dog is nipping at your heels. But it also is good to have strategies such as the ones you are using to tell him to bugger off!!
Thank you for linking up for #lifethisweek 34/52. Next Week’s prompt: LTW is ONE!
